Underwater Steelhead – Pic of the Day
Erik Rambo shot a video of a cool release shot of a steelhead swimming away along the sand in the lower river. This video was shot this week in the high sun so we had good light and low clear water provides for a perfect effect. Took the video and converted it to a jpeg and found this shot that is hard to get with just a camera. Thank you Erik.
Picture of the day – Silly flies for steelhead
Now is the time to swing the big flies, as our lake-run rainbows from Lake Michigan are not so focused on the egg bite. November historically is one of the best months and this year is no different as fish are on the hunt for something more.
More Alaska – Dolly
Dave with a nice Dolly with guide Jeff Topp. Been working on the highlight roll and came upon this photo. This was one of our fly out days from Katmai Lodge, very special little river. Thank you Jeff for sharing this with us. Hope to have some sort of finalized video done in a month or so. Will post a blog when it’s finished.
Picture was shot with my GoPro H2, it is actually a still shot from video that I took of this fish being held. Amazing what you can do with “command, shift, 4” on a mac.
Alaskan Favorite – Picture of the Day
Have about 25 favorites from the close to 1000 pictures I took over the week in AK. Here is one of them, other than the mangled fly in a fishes mouth. Capturing the flight, or aerial display of a jumping fish. In this case a silver salmon, is one of my passions with the camera. It is not easy to say the least, but now with all the practice I hope to be ready for fall steelhead. The real reason why I bought a Canon 7D, give me speed to capture these types of photos. Hope you enjoy.
Alaskan Adventure – more to come soon
Just getting back to MI, after spending the past week with Jeff Topp at Katmai Lodge in Alaska. We had an amazing week of fishing, silvers, rainbows, dolly’s, chum, and pink salmon counting for the majority of our catch. I have over a 1000 pictures, hours of video, and am hoping to put something special together in the coming weeks. If you have not fished Alaska yet, or your looking for a new experience you owe it to yourself to fish with Mike Maher and Jeff Topp at the Katmai Lodge.
Thank you Iyso – Pictures of the Day
Isonychia duns emerge late afternoon into late evening. Wings are slate-gray in color, but the true give away for identification is the middle and hind legs are stark white, while the forelegs are dark in color. But often the forelegs are raised in position when the insect rests. This Isonychia gave me a couple minutes of his time and let me take a couple different shots.
