Northern Shrike

This little guy, about the size of a blue jay is pretty amazing.  Northern Shrikes usually site quietly, often in the top of a tree, before they swoop down after insects, mice, and small song birds.  Impaling it’s prey on a thorn or wedging it in a forked twig.

This is the first one I’ve had a chance to photograph.  Usually they sit so far away.
