Happy to announce the Big Appetite Small Mouth DVD is now available, I have copies of the DVD in stock and ready to ship.  Here is a link to the products page to purchase your copy.  Thank you to everybody for their patience as this  project was an amazing experience.  Thank you Kevin Feenstra and Erik Rambo, it was an honor to work with both of you for the past 2 years.

Big Appetite, Small Mouth contains beautiful imagery of one of the great warm water fish, the smallmouth bass.  Footage includes fly tying and fishing with streamers, crayfish patterns, and surface poppers.  If you are an experienced smallmouth angler, or just getting in to it, you will enjoy this exciting DVD!

Picture of the Day – Barred Owl along Manistee River

Had the pleasure of photographing for the first time a Barred Owl.  This will be something I don’t think I will ever forget, if you get the chance ask me the story.  It’s a whopper to say the least.  Makes no sense to type it out here, as nobody will believe me anyway.  But one of the more jaw dropping events I have ever seen, while trout fishing the upper Manistee.  Thank you Mrs. Barred Owl for sharing your morning with us.

Hard to tell what I was shooting yesterday as this creature started to unveil himself, but pretty sure I was shooting Mr. Dragonfly.  Just amazing to watch mother nature work, wish I would of had more time to watch the whole process.

Isonychia duns emerge late afternoon into late evening.  Wings are slate-gray in color, but the true give away for identification is the middle and hind legs are stark white, while the forelegs are dark in color.  But often the forelegs are raised in position when the insect rests.  This Isonychia gave me a couple minutes of his time and let me take a couple different shots.

Love my smallmouth bass fishing.  Had a chance to get out and explore new water yesterday, and found bass looking up!  And as a FYI, going through the finally editing process for the upcoming Smallmouth DVD, should be done soon.

Just received a very cool email and had to share that Go Pro has launched a dive kit for there Go Pro line of camera’s.  Ever have your underwater images or video not turn out just right.  Was your image a little fuzzy?  Well here is the answer!  Here is a link GoPro.com – just look under premium accessories .  I will be posting video of the new housing shortly after it arrives.  But I’m sure it has fixed the problem of fuzzy underwater imagery.

The panfish family has always had a special place in my heart.  Most likely from the fact that they are the first fish I can really remember targeting as a pip squeak youngster sitting on an end of a dock.  Fishing for hours upon hours.  So when this time of year comes around, I always have to head out and throw around the poppers.  If you have not visited bream bugs.com  I would highly recommend them for the best assortment of poppers and other flies for warm water fishing.

 

 

 

Bugs in a Tub

Okay if you have fished with me, you understand that one of my strengths is not Latin terminology for aquatic insects.  I have a very simple approach to aquatic life.  Match the color and size.  But sometimes knowing a little bit more than they other guy, can give you an advantage.  Below is a video of a couple bugs in the tub.  Late May and early June the Manistee as both the Siphlonurus Nymph and Baetisca Nymph swimming around pretty regularly, in certain sections.  And yes I had to look those names up!
