Had to get down and dirty on the Upper Manistee, with a slower than normal couple days of trout fishing. Had to bust out all the tricks. Have honestly not thrown the worm, the san juan worm, since my Colorado days some 15 years ago. Used to fish the worm on the Upper Colorado River on my days off.

There are some things in this world that everyone deserves to experience with their own eyes. I headed to Alaska in February with the hope of catching a glimpse of the Northern Lights with mine. That glimpse turned into an extravaganza…a party in the sky, and I was an onlooker, a face in the crowd…awestruck, mesmerized, feeling like the luckiest girl in the world. Night after night I was captivated by bright and colorful lights dancing wistfully above me; a graceful representation of the light in my soul. These were enchanted nights like I've never experienced. And while my camera captured a play-by-play of the spectacle, I could be found dog sledding through snow-covered forests, relaxing by the fire in a toasty cabin, or simply laying down in the snow and drifting into the dance.
This was the most amazing trip of my life so far…and here it is, summarized in under 3 minutes. This is my first time time lapse film, so it means a lot that you're here, reading this, stepping into a very special piece of my past.

If you have been on any of the social networks in the past 24 hours I’m sure your sick of the flood stage, high water, USGS graphs. But figured if you had not seen it yet, here is my little part to my little area that is overflowing.

Here is the Handicap Ramp if you have fished below Tippy, you have a perceptive of how this normally looks, just to say the river is high is an understatement.
Next are three graphs that all are related, they show the water that is headed to Tippy. The Pine River and the Upper Manistee (Sherman) have water flow gauges. Showing the levels. The first graph is Manistee River at Sherman, where flood stage is normally 2400cfs, this morning it is running just under 3500cfs and looks that it could crest here shortly. Just under 4000 cfs, a new record! The little yellow triangles are normal flow over a 17 year average for this time of year. As you can see yet again we have water this spring to play with.
Tippy Dam Graph. Reaching 6500 yesterday for a short period in time. Way too unsafe to fish from a boat!
So I see this and I see how far I need to come with the camera and the editing. But watching this video inspires me to work harder. Great work here by the riders and the camera crew!

This week on the Big Manistee was surprised to find the USFS crew with a power washer at the High Bridge boat ramp, handing out information about AIS (Aquatic Invasive Species). Through a cooperative effort of the USFS, Manistee County, and local watershed groups; they are providing education and suppression efforts for the AIS. Suppression efforts include this specially designed heated power washer for decontaminating boats and trailers.

With all the water here in MI, it is important to wash boats and trailers if you visit different waters.
